Wynfred Russell

My Background

I am a public health practitioner with master’s degrees in health and public policy. A few of my accomplishments include serving on the Brooklyn Park Planning Commission, Human Rights Commission, Joint Airport Zoning Board, Brooklyn Park Lions, Hennepin County Library Board, Tourism Board, and founding ACER, a community-based organization, and recently managing a statewide COVID-19 response and recovery program and played an essential role in working toward a path to citizenship for Liberians on DED in the United States. I have been a part of creating and implementing policies that strengthen union positions, supports workers and their families, and provides tools for successful small businesses.

I’ve helped to create over 1000 new jobs in our district with livable wages. We grew our tax base with commercial development and reduced our resident’s tax burden and attained millions of dollars in state and federal funds for transportation, small business growth, and infrastructure investment.

There has been Increased diversity of our housing stock, with naturally occurring affordable housing, and new developments of senior housing.

I’ve worked hard to Improve community and police relations and create safer neighborhoods.
Supported youth programming and expanded access to youth sports and activities. During my tenure on the City Council, our parks have been revitalized with increased trails and connectivity, leveraging outside funding and grants to invest in our park system.
